Steve Rigby, was among 17 business leaders invited to Downing Street for a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister, following the announcement of new US tariffs by President Trump.

The discussion focused on the potential economic implications of the tariffs and the UK’s response amid growing global uncertainty. The meeting was held at a critical moment for UK trade policy, as global markets respond to rising tensions.

“It was great to be one of two private businesses in the room, both of which play a significant role in the UK economy.”

“We are in uncharted waters and emotions are currently riding high, but I believe that the government’s measured approach is exactly what’s needed. A proportionate UK response is the right course if we are to avoid a Trump slump or, worse still, a global recession.”

In media interviews following the meeting, Steve emphasised the need to avoid escalation and expressed his support for the government’s calm, measured response. Steve also highlighted the need to maintain strong relationships with both the US and the EU to secure long-term trade outcomes.

He also took the opportunity to underscore the vital role of private enterprise and the potential impact of the tariffs on UK businesses.
